Questions & Answers: 316

So, I suppose there were some actual answers last night. Mainly, how to get back to the island. Well, Jack, you were off to a good start back in the day, cuz, really, you do just have to get on a plane. Okay, Okay. It has to be the same as before (why?) and there has to be proxies or whatev.

Here's a question: Why is there all this proxy business. I mean, I kind of get the John Locke thing. But is Sayid a proxy for Kate? Because Kate is there. Is Kate drugged up for Charlie? Is Ben's broken arm replacing Locke's wheelchair? And Ben getting up to go to the bathroom is setting it off, because Bernard got up and went to the bathroom the last time? Why does the Island care?

Here are some questions:

1) Was there an actual plane crash? If so, where are the other people? They did find that Aija Airlines waterbottle on the beach... are people camping out?

2) Where is Sun & Sayid. Honestly, I think they're just pushing back the reunion of Sun & Jin to make it more of an "event". Please see my post on their dramatic relationship.

3) What is Mrs. Hawking's timeline? What does she do exactly? Why does she care?

4) What is in store for Desmond? I'm looking at your comments ... is Desmond going to go back to the island to kill Ben, in order to revenge Penny's death?

5) Who's beating up Ben? Can Ben go back to the Island? If they're in Dharma time and young Ben is there, can old Ben go back?

I'm now fairly certain that when Locke messed with the wheel it took everyone back to the period of time when Dharma ruled the Island. That's why we saw Faraday at the Orchid and Jin in a Dharma suit. All of those kids are integrating themselves into the Dharma group. One of them is going to spill the beans about the purge to Dr. Chang, because at some point he has said he knows it's going to happen. Also, this is the point of time that Charlotte is living on the Island as a little girl. She's going to meet Faraday (creepy man) and Jin is going to teach her Korean. Eventually, the Oceanic Five (does Aaron need to come back?) will be living as Dharma folks and will be killed in the purge by none other then Ben.

Lastly:

1) Where is Walt? I know, he's on a hot pockets commercial. Bring him back!

2) Where are Bernard & Rose? What have those crazy kids been up to?

3) How do we feel about Kate & Jack?

last nights episode may be the biggest waste of time yet.

exactly NOTHING happened.

The look on Jack's face when he awoke on the island and then courageously dove into the lagoon to save Hurley was amazing.

I also can't wait to see what Ben endured (all those scuffs and scrapes) to get everything arranged.

And lastly, Kate is so beyond redemption. "If you ever mention Aaron again I'll stab you to death and eat your soul!" Then she kisses him like a whore. What's the deal? Get over it, Kate.

"How can you read?"
"My mother taught me."

He was even lying about that - his mom died during childbirth! I love Ben!

If you're not enjoying the show and feel that nothing is happening, you may be happier waiting until Season 6 airs and then watching the "bringing you up to speed" cliffnotes episode. That way you won't have to bother with, you know, the emotional rollercoaster ride that you're on as a result of a TV show.

Matt- holy crap dude, good call! That's hilarious!!! I loved when he delived that line, too, he's such a sassy one, that trickster!

How about Ben saying he didn't know Locke killed himself (we knew he was lying) and then in the preview for next time we see he was in the room, on his knees no less.

Kate saying that "never ask me about Aaron again" bullshit was the lostest thing that has ever happened on lost.

That episode was worth it for the return of Lapidus (my constant)!

I think we all know what that is referring to.

I also liked the part in the previous episode when Ben told Sun that it'd take 30 minutes to get to the place where he could show her proof that Jin was alive.

Then later she goes, "You said it would take 30 minutes," and Ben goes, "I didn't account for traffic!"

Even when it's trivial, Ben is still a wiggly bastard.

p.s.-my Aaron theory is that somehow Claire showed up and took Aaron away and told Kate to fuck off, because I can't think of any other way that Kate wouldn't fight to get him back.

Yeah, I was actually pretty into last night's episode. Eloise laid everything out, which may have seemed to be covering old ground for some of us that think we've got it all figured out, but at least it's been said, explained, and they won't have to bother with it anymore. Everything seemed to get resolved a little to easily, with everyone just showing up on their own accord to get on the plane, but let's face it, we were all worried it was going to take all season to get them back on the Island, and now they're back. From what I understand, "316" and and next week's episode "The Life and Death of Jeremy Bentham" were originally meant to appear in opposite order, but they decided it worked a little better showing 316 first. So I'm assuming next week will cover Sayid getting arrested, Kate losing Aaron, Hurley getting out of prison, and Ben getting beat up. So I'm thinking if you thought last night's was a waste of time, next week will be even more so. Personally, I'm stoked. There were a few things I wasn't into last night, but all in all I give it a thumbs up.

I can see next week's episode explaining Sayid getting arrested (and for some reason needs to be transported to Guam of all places?) and Hurley getting out of prison. However, I don't think we'll see how Ben got beat up or how Kate "lost" Aaron.

Ben's suddenly the most likeable character on the show.

I think Lost is finally crossing over into "just silly" for me, but I'm a-ok with that.

lil' maxwell said...

Did Ben get beat up? Or... was it PENNY'S BLOOD. That's right. I said it. He left the church in a hurry because he saw Desmond, found out what dock Penny and Desmond were hangin' at, and then Ben murdered Penny. MURDERED.

That being said, I liked last night's episode.

Anonymous said...

Do you think that was Penny's broken arm he was carrying around in that sling?

Could there be a more Lost thing than Jack refusing to read Locke's suicide note?? Granted it didn't say much but still, the whole time I thought it was gonna have some key piece of info that would be found out too late.

Last night's episode was a little light but I was in to it. The overly succinct Island explanation (from a total school marm no less!) & subsequent return definitely beats dragging out the getting back to the Island plot (I'm only capitalizing "Island" because Cody did - it seems like he would know).

Another classic Ben line: "You tell me Jack - you're the one who got to stay after school with Ms. Hawking"

Locke is in the coffin. The new Christian.

Kate and Jack get down before go time. Kate's obviously pregnant and will give birth on the island. The new Claire.

Hurley brought his guitar on the place. The new Charile.

Jack is now the new man of faith, the new Locke.

Seems like more than coincidence, right? Anyone else with me? Though I couldn't begin to tell you what it all means.

Anonymous said...

@ grassyknoll: I like that you said Kate was preggers and I assumed she was drugged.

Anonymous said...

oh, and Sayid in custody. The new Kate. Get ready for the very awkward Sawyer, Jack, Sayid love triangle...

Cody said...

If there's one thing Locke has taught me, it's to repect the Island.

I say no way is Kate giving birth on the island. MAYBE she'll figure out she's pregnant and she'll die because the Island does that to mamas, or maybe she'll just lose the baby, but if she's pregnant, there's no way the next season and a half will cover nine months "real" time. At least I hope not.

I forgot to ask: should we care about Jack's grandpa? (Aaron's great-grandfather).

beckler said...

Scott had a good theory during the show that the suicide note from Locke was going to say "don't let Ben on the plane!". that would have been cool

lil' maxwell said...

nobody seems to care that Penny is DEAD. GONE. FOREVER.

Anonymous said...

I don't think Penny is dead. I'll go ahead and believe that Ben TRIED to kill her, but something tells me Desmond fought him off.

Penny's dead. That's why Desmond is gonna come back to the island. For revenge.

Penny's dead. But then, in the final seconds of the last episode of the season, SHE REAPPEARS!!

Did anyone catch the air marshall (played by a young hollywood supermodel, of course)was on the island in the next episode preview?

I don't know about a plane crash, but I suspect some (or all?) of the people on that plane got sucked through that time warp as well.

Can't wait to see the little Hispanic dude who said he was sorry for Jack at the airport.

Ben wrote Locke's suicide note. He needs Jack to continue to be an guilt-ridden mess so Ben can exploit Jack for the next season and a half.

I want to know what happens when Locke hooks up with Widmore next week.

Is anyone buying the "Ben is Aaron," or some kind of Aaron relative theory? That's why Ben was willing to use blood to try to get custody. And remember, Aaron was the only member of the Oceanic 6 to not be on the plane. Maybe he was...

The little guy is one of Widmore's spies/assassins. He was also the terrorist in "Vantage Point", which starred Matthew Fox.

Last night's episode was better than the last two, if only because they completely jettisoned the off-island bullshit. Just get everyone on the plane, no questions asked.

Also, Lapidus had one of the great going-to-commercial lines in "Lost" history: "We're not going to Guam, are we?"

Oh, and if you're one of those "I-expect-this show-to-be-good-just-because-it's-my-favorite-thing-on-television-and-I've-followed-it-for-years-and-I-care-about-it" nuts, you need to get it together. After all, it's just a show...that's why we're all reading and commenting this obsessive "Lost" blog, right? Because it's just an ordinary, average show which we as viewers have no stake in the quality of, right? Right.

I think I figured it out.

Dan, just because you are paid to be a critic now doesn't mean you get MORE money for being MORE critical.

Ok, Ben broke his arm because he picked a fight with Syaid, so that he could be arrested and taken on the plane.

Ben tricked hurley into getting on the plane by threatening hurley's parent's, or say his friends needed him or some bullshit.

Ben has kidnapped aaron and told Kate that he would die if she didn't go and not to tell anyone. Most likely becuase Jack wouldn't like it.

That's all I got.

lil' maxwell said...

Charles... you forgot the horrible and violent struggle between Penny and Ben where Penny ends up totally DEAD.

I liked Ben the most this season in last nights episode, as a matter of fact, I think Ben is the only real thing I like about this season so far. He's the most, if not only, intriguing thing. Just cause we know that he's up to no good, with killing Penny, fucking with people, lying and everybody calling him on it and continuing to lie and all.

The more I think about Hurley & that guitar the more stoked I get.

ah lil' maxwell, I never thought we'd agree to anything involving Lost, but I couldn't agree more with you regarding Ben. He is the only thing good about the show right now and he must be bribing the writers because he gets the only good lines.

lil' maxwell said...

I can't help but think everything he says is super funny because he's such is a lil' fucker. Like last night, I laughed when all he said was "what's up jack?".

Widmore told desmond where to find Mrs. hawking because he knew that penny would go with him to L.A., giving widmore a time and place to find ben (his own daughter as bait, what a badass). Whether or not ben killed her... I don't really care, never much liked her, but I think it was widmore's goons that roughed ben up.

the island wants desmond back, widmore wants the island, ben's on the island, they BOTH want ben.

Desmond and Widmore join forces to join the island.

father/son bonding, whoever is whichever

Oh man I like moustache's theory.

beckler said...

I demand from now on that when we are discussing who is dead on lost on this blog that we put quotes around "dead"

The Armeniac said...

Good Idea. Lil' Max, why are you so sure Penny's "dead"?

lil' maxwell said...

I think my main man moustache has a point. But I'm still gonna go with Penny being dead. 'cause I wants it to be true.

dear matthew,
what do you have against penny and true love?

Nothing... I just like a little revenge instead.

It will be revealed tonight that Richard Alpert is actually Batmanuel.
