The Incident
Well, we know who Jacob is, sort of. Pretty exciting, I guess. We've seen the statue in all it's glory. Definitely Egyption, possibly Taweret? We see that Rose and Bernard are doing A-OK in the jungle, living on there own. I was stoked on that scene. We know that Jack loves Kate, and Juliette loves Sawyer, both so much they're willing to blow up an entire island. It seems Locke isn't really Locke (which explains his non-weenieness). And we got another ending of something blowing up. Which leaves season 6 open to pretty much anything at this point. I've got a few theories, but I'll save that for the comments. I guess the big question is if the hydrogen bomb prevented the incident, changing time, or did she just cause it to happen? What's the deal with Locke's body? Is Jacob really dead? What about Desmond? Did you notice that Juliette's flashback was the only one that Jacob wasn't in? And that Jacob physically touched everyone in their flash back? What's up with Ilana? Why is she all bandaged, and why did Jacob choose her? What is Lapidus a candidate for?

I totally don't care what happens anymore. I am a robot with no emotions, but everyone knew that anyway.
yolkie wins.
Did anyone else's picture cut out during the last scene with Jacob, Ben, and fake Locke? I had to watch the missing 30-40 seconds this morning on the Internets.
yes! what the f, Comcast! i swear they do shit like that on purpose.
Happened to me too. Bastards!
Sooo... exactly who is this other guy hanging out with Jacob at the beginning? Did he use Locke as his "loophole"? Has Locke actually been dead this whole season and that other guy posing as him?
How did Jacob and this other guy wind up on this island together? And they were unable to harm eachother?
I liked this finale.. I think the writers don't know exactly what they're gonna do, so the way the ended this season leaves it open for pretty much anything.
ours cut out too and we have satellite! East Coast viewers, however, did not have that problem. wtf.
We should barage ABC with viscous emails, they stole 6-10 seconds of our lives! We'll never get that back, at least not until the dvd comes out. Of course ABC's precious East Coast was unaffected, sheesh, don't they know the west coast is the best coast?
Um... you people have heard of the internet I'll assume (going out on a limb here)... You don't have to wait for the dvd... you can watch it online at www.abc.com...
Thanks professor Anon, real enlightening!
I liked the all white LOST screen at the end, a real blank slate. I thought the finale was pretty damn enjoyable, lots of Commando style gun fights and ass kicking. Hopefully next season the Lost team will be recovered from Star Trek and can focus on Lost, clearly not a priority this season. Why does th esmoke monster aka new Locke want to kill Jacob? And is is Ben or Locke the new Jacob, Facob as my cousin opined? Is the Island truly Jacobless?
PS: Professor Anon; I'm posting on LOST blog, why would I not know about abc.com? Do you hate dvd's? What about laser discs, I can't wait for the LOST laser disc! Waiting for a snotty anonymous reply......
Way to steal my "Smoke monster=Jacob's enemy" theory DP. Anyway I thought the best part was when Bernard points out "you traveled back thirty years in time and all you can think about is shooting each other." Best line of the show.
-biz
DP you're all worked up! Let it go, let it go...
no fighting on the blog! read that quote from Bernard and check yourselves!
Any time Biz! Remember that sweet drum fill I played in "Painting Guys", or that sweet line about there being ' jewels in the mouths of corpses'? Man I'm good. How do I do it?
Yr right Madwell, I took a chill pill and every thing is a-ok, sorry for the bad vibes.
i think the hydrogen bomb blowing up changed nothing and was the incident. it would explain the necessity for a quarentine with the fallout and all.
-ryan
Jacob and dude sitting on the beach eating fish. Jesus fished. Other dude is Esau. Two brothers destined to be in conflict forever.
Notice Jacob was clad in white and other dude in black? Good/Evil.
Also enjoyed the bit of allegory when Locke says to Ben something along the lines of, "In your life you got a tumor, got your daughter killed, suffered, etc. All this from following Jacob's every order your whole life, and you've never even met him. Why WOULDN'T you want to kill him?"
Hence Jacob = God.
Heavy issues!
QUESTION: can they get evangeline lilly's shirt any tighter?
Best episode(s) of the season, and the ending only vindicates my feeling that this was the lost season of "Lost", and that the creators need to hit the reset button and take a year and a half to think about things. Sweet fucking vindication!
-DB
I can't believe all the positive Rose & Bernard things I'm reading on various LOST blogs today!! They're the fucking worst! Their scene last night was classic filler. Other than that I was pretty damn in to this episode.
Also, starting a comment with "ummmm...." may be my least favorite thing on the internet.
-miller
Damn! I had a Jacob and Esau theory/interpretation brewing! Damn you Ben! Everyone, pretend you didn't read that, and don't think about it. I really wanted to be the one to blow everyone's mind!
(yes, I'm sure I'm not the first to think of it.)
for those of you who have asked what will become of the blog in hiatus -- we're talkin' it out. We have a few ideas, which we'll present to you after we've thoroughly discussed the finale (say, a couple days?). So, check back then...
Maybe it can follow the Rose & Bernard spinoff sitcom.
-miller
hey, where'd my comment go? conspiracy?
here it is again. food for thought:
fake locke telling alpert to take the bullet out of real locke's leg. so fake locke planned to have real locke die
monster alex telling ben to follow locke. i mean, it seems pretty clear that fake lock/esau is the smoke monster
i think juliet did reset! juliet did reset! new chant. next season will start with them at lax.
I think you should blog about the new season of "Wipeout".
-DB
Problem solved.
-miller
I too, think the next season will start at LAX. I think she did reset, and the next season will be "destiny" course correcting to get everyone back on the island.
beckler-
you're totally right! Fake Locke got real Locke (who is now such a pawn in their game!) to die!
oh shit! I was just looking at pictures of the constants and my nose started bleeding!Red drops on my laptop.
whoah, for real? That's totally crazy. By the way, the Constants were so fucking good. Could everyone hear okay? I was right up by the amp so I could, but I was worried everyone else couldn't. I really wish there was video of their entire performance. Or an album.
The Constants should totally put out an album...
the intro video was great.
I was impressed with the amount of people there!
I have to agree with Mr. Miller about the Rose and Bernard scene; that was the glaring weak spot, and pretty unnecessary. I especially like how Bernard was like, "Oh, Jack's gonna set off a nuclear bomb? What do I care, I'm old!" Great fucking attitude, bro. All I know is that the Nard-dog must have found some balling-ass island herb in order to be so blase about mass annihilation.
-DB
I was a little bored by Bernard and Rose too. But people wanted to know about em, and now we know, for sure they are Adam and Eve. (MattMax, why do we care?) Where's the Dharma weed?
PS: Dear DB,
Nard-dog comment=brilliant!
Armeniac, I love your profile picture because it looks like she's holding a gigantic hamburger (with nothing on it, just how I like em!)
How was watching at Luigi's? Were people quiet and respectful or did it get all frustrating like I was afraid it would?
Wow! Hadn't noticed that Cody. But I guess the moon is to the Goddess as the burger is to the Cody, makes perfect analogous sense!
okay, so if we're talking "war" here then the sides would be:
"Esau"/smoke monster/Fake locke: claire, christian shepard...
Jacob: the 316ers and I'm guessing the castaways (is that who is coming?)
and Ben? He switches sides?
Did anyone else feel really bad for Ben when Jacob pretty much called him worthless? I did. I hope that Ben stabs someone to death in the series finale, then that'd be three years in a row.
Watching at Luigi's was actually pretty rad. In fact, I was probably the least respectful person there. During Sawyer's Jacob flashback, I shouted out "Sawyer's left handed!" That little kid wasn't. It pissed me off.
I think Richard Alpert will either be dead or be aging very rapidly by the time Ben and fake Locke get back out to the beach.
I got totally depressed when Juliet "died." But then she was okay. And then she blew up the island, so I take solace in the thought that she's only as dead as the rest of them.
P.S.
According to Lostpedia, Richard's Latin response to "What lies in the shadow of the statue?" means "The one who will save us all."
Dylan,
what is juliet is dead because she wasn't "touched" by jacob like the rest of 'em?
"she's only as dead of the rest of them"! that made me lol. what a comment. I vote that comment of the thread. Also, Richard aging? You're blowing my mind.
That's a pretty good theory, Madeline, but part of me thinks that Jacob has Juliet's best interests at heart, because Richard actively tried to recruit her, and Jacob cured her sister's cancer. It is totally confusing, though, that they would put a flashback in that didn't have Jacob in it. It was a lame flashback, too. "I don't wanna understand!!"
I don't know how important it is, but I keep thinking about the mirror seasons. Like the lost season 4 poster, with the mirror image of the island in the water outside of the city.
Season 4 = season 3
season 5 = season 2 (hatch exploding again, quarantine, ect.)
season 6 = season 1 (LAX)
how crazy would that be if season 6 went down like cody speculated, starting at lax and showing that the universe will course correct? watching it all go down again (in a different way) would be depressing, because it would show that everyone was trapped in this kind of inescapable hell. just like real life!
the reason I don't think they will really do that is because I don't see how you could drag that plot out for a whole season, and the ending would be a total downer
what could this possibly mean?
Jacob replies that it only ends once and anything before that is just progress.
the black rock is gonna have to figure in the last season. and the purge. i thought this season would be all about the purge
If they crash again, then it means the series will end with John Locke smiling at the camera with an orange peel in his mouth. I'm into that.
I think real John will fulfill his destiny in season 6.
I was wondering about that cryptic quote myself. I think, based on that quote and the lack of any old timey accents, that Jacob and Esau know how everything ends because they were in existence before time began and also after time ends (never, it continues in an endless loop). They can see how the form of each itiration ( the actual people involved, crash survivors, pirates, egypians?) changes from the next, but always returns to it's same end. Do they want it end differently? I like the show getting back to it's Hindu/ Budhhist roots. Namaste indeed.
I kind of think LOST is kind of just an analogy for real life. The island is life, or reality as we know it, or whatever. Dharma tries to explain it with science, the Others try and explain it with faith, but in the end they're just quantifying the same thing. And in the end, niether viewpoint will really matter, because the island just IS. Some things on the show that seem important aren't, some things that seem trivial are extremely important. We'll never really understand it, and we don't really need to. The only ones that get it are Rose and Bernard, which is why they're so Zen about the whole thing.
Damn. This shit's getting deep.
Take that however you want.
Well put Cody, you are the King! Clearly the Vishnu of OPM.
Miller says the statue is Sobek the Crocodile god. Seems legit, I mean Wikipedia is the source, gotta be right.
Why did Jacob have a ponytail when he was exiled to the cabin? How did Jacob escape the cabin? Where is Claire?
yeah, Claire has to play some sort of central role, right? I mean, she's coming back.
I'm really sold on the seasons mirroring each other. Here's a quote from Doc Jensons's lost blog on ew.com:
''The Incident'' confirmed for me one of the few correct theories I've come up with this year: That season 5 was a mirror to season 2, they've been setting up a sixth season that will resemble season 1, thus completing the moebius strip narrative of Lost. ''The Incident'' certainly resembled season 2's finale, the title of which, ''Live Together, Die Alone,'' was name-checked by Juliet last night. There was a story line involving castaway treachery (Michael = Alterna-Locke). Both episodes shared the Four Toed Statue as a plot point, although ''The Incident'' gave us a better look at what it once looked like back in the day. (Was that a crocodile head?) Both episodes culminated with the destruction of the Hatch, perpetrated in each case by lovelorn characters hoping their sacrifice would somehow, someway save the lives of their friends. And finally, both episodes were about activating ''quibbles''. As in: A plot device, common to fantasy/science fiction, that allows a character to cheat the literal obligations of a promise, contract, or prophecy. Also see: loophole. Desmond had the failsafe, while Jacob had...
also, I don't think they'll come back to LAX. I think they'll come back to the Island. Jack's gonna wake up in the jungle in the opening scene. They're gonna be camping out on the beach.
camping out = making camp. like in season one.
1-Sawyer is Ambidexterous.
2-Last night already had a lot of references to season 1. The return to the beach camp, the hatch door, the crib, the DS ring, the black rock, carrying the nuke was like carrying the dynamite, and most importantly Jack's prediction of a "John Locke problem" finally comes true.
3- Just to clarify, I didn't love the Rose and Bernard stuff because I'd been dying of suspense to find out what happened to them, but because it was nice to see someone walk away from all the G.I. Joe bullshit that has plagued the last couple of seasons and get on with having a good life.
4-LOOOOOOOOOOOOST!!!!!!
-biz
don't be ashamed of your burning love for rose and bernard, biz.
That wasn't Jacob in the Cabin, that was "Esau" the whole time. He tricked Locke. Ben even said the cabin thing was a set up.
Wow, what an amazing episode eh? Why is it that Jacob could touch people, but when "esau" manifested himself to Christian, he couldn't touch Locke? How many times has Jacob been looping this event??? Is Jacob even good? Why does Esau want to kill him so bad??
*brain shuts down, overheats*
that darkufo website guy is postulating that esau/smoke monster/fake locke was also taking the form of christian. that's interesting to think about. i'm thinking about it right now
yeah, we were discussing that in my office - but wasn't Christian's body missing?
It could have just been taken. Christian doesn't really seem resurrected like Locke did (and which we now know the island can't do), but then again, he's been seeming more solid lately.
Here's another good darkufo tidbit:
I believe Hurley is the most special character on LOST when it comes to ultimately changing the game. He's the dark man's nightmare: someone who's totally above judgment. Hugo is the one pure, good, innocent and untarnished person lost in a sea of people who did some really bad shit. Nothing can ever corrupt him: not even the tremendous amounts of money or power associated with winning the lottery. Hugo's untouchable, and Jacob knows it. He allows Hurley make his own decision, and his decision was to come back to the island.
that's deep.
The Real Locke saves everyone. I'm calling it.
Charles
Another reason to believe next season will be much like Season 1 is the teaser trailer. It's just a shot of Jack's eye from the Pilot. Maybe he'll wake up in the same time and place as he was in the Lost premier, but he'll have his memories from before, giving him much of the same prediction abilities as Eloise Hawking seems to have. Season 6 will show Jack and possibly Sawyer, Kate, etc. trying to save all those who died. However, course correction will continuously prove victorious, killing Boone, Shannon, etc.
I haven't had much time to think this through, but I think I might be on to something here.
I know this isn't right at all but I'm having fun imagining it.
What if by nuking the island, they kill everybody on it (except Jacob) and the Esau has free range to possess everyone's body. So Jacob has to fight everyone all at once...
that'd be pretty cool, right?
I'm trying to upload the Luigi's Orientation Video.
It kills everyone on the island in 2007, or 1977? or both?
Did anyone else listen to the Official Podcast leading up to this episode? They said some pretty interesting stuff about the compass. Basically it's stuck in a mobius loop, because Locke gave it to Richard, but then Richard gave it to Locke. I'll have to rewatch, but I believe it goes back and forth between aged and rust and new and shiny. I just thought that was kind of fascinating.
Also, they said that it was indeed Jeremy Davie's voice talking to Dr. Chang in the pre-season five teaser video, but because of some contraints and the show evolving differently than they expected, they couldn't follow through with that story, making that video (or at least Faraday's offscreen direction) non-cannon
Re: Christian is the Smoke Monster.
There were several short "Lost" webisodes made between (I believe) seasons 3 and 4. The first one takes place right before the first shot of the first episode: the dog walks right up to Christian, who tells it to "wake up my son". That makes me think it's the "real" Christian, or as real as he can be under the circumstances. Obviously, these aren't "official" episodes, but it can't be a coincidence that Christian became more involved in the Island mythology in Season 4.
I was just reading some other blogs and some think that the fact that the fish Jacob was cooking was a red herring is very significant. thoughts?
oh shoot! You just beat me madewell. Looking at images with my extensive marine biology training, hah, I'm not so sure it is a red herring. I love the idea, but the shape on the tail is not quite right. Hmmm. It appears everyone all the blogs say so. I'm going to look into it.
I want to see some fucking pirates.
Oh yeah, I thought I would bring this up because it is one of my favorite theories....
Jack IS Christian.
Kate IS Margo(Jack's mother).
I love this theory. In fact, I hope this theory is true, it is so damn cool. Certainly weird, but this is just the right amount of mind-blowing that I like.
Wouldn't this explain a lot of the show? The connections and relationships between Kate/Jack/Christian/Margo, and Claire and Aaron?
http://lostpedia.wikia.com/wiki/File:40946_1_123_144lo.jpg
Afterall... Margo could pass for an old Kate, could she not?
http://images3.wikia.nocookie.net/lostpedia/images/4/40/2x11_jack_christian.JPG
and to a lesser extent, but still plausible, Christian could pass for an older Jack, could he not?
in some Egyptian creation myths, it was Sobek who first came out of the waters of chaos to create the world.[1] As a creator god, he was occasionally linked with the sun god Ra.[1]
Sobek's ambiguous nature led some Egyptians to believe that he was a repairer of evil that had been done, rather than a force for good in itself. He was also said to call on suitable gods and goddesses required for protecting people in situation, effectively having a more distant role, nudging things along, rather than taking an active part.shown with an ankh, representing his ability to undo evil and so cure ills
all from wikipedia... Jen
According to the official ABC synopsis of the episode, the statue is indeed of the Egyptian Goddess Taweret.I'm going to go with that one.
The antipode idea has to play a part in that, that somehow the island is connected to ancient Egypt by being geographically on the opposite end of the earth (Tunisia, but close enough). What exactly that connection is and the interrelationships, don't know...
P.S. no one is into the Jack=Christian and Kate=Margo idea?
Eryn, the Jack/Kate = Christian/Margot theory is tripping me out. At first I thought it was just another gross incest theory, but then I realized it's not even incest. I don't know how likely it is that it's true, but it's definitely feasable and mind blowing.
As for the the red herring, even if it is, what will that mean? I think at best it's just meant as a joke, or it's just a red herring itself. It's a funny little easter egg but I don't put much importance behind it.
