Jughead
Geez, I better start posting as soon as the show is over. Now there's comments pertaining to last night's episode, "Jughead" in a post about Josh Holloway being to sexy. While last night's episode may have had a little to do with Sawyer being sexy (it depends who you ask, I guess)it had more to do with Faraday manning-up and Desmond returning looking for Faraday's mother. And as usual, some minds were blown in the process. Who would've that that Gramponymous Maxwell was right when he said "The dude in the army outfit with the name "Joseph" who wanted to cut off Juliet's hand is a Widmore." Sounds like an off-handed joke gone eerily right, to me. Here's what I wanna know:
1. How did Widmore rise to so much power? He appears to be a lowly grunt as of 1954. Does he betray Alpert and the Others to try and use the Island for evil instead of good? Was he banished to the mainland or did he leave voluntarily?
2. Who was Theresa, the girl in a coma? I'm guessing it wasn't actually a coma, but she's stuck shifting between time much like Minkowski. Was she just a random test subject, or did she have some sort of relationship with Faraday? Did she volunteer for the experiments?
3. I still want to know who Faraday's mother is. I think many of us assume it's Ms. Hawkings. If that's the case, is her super-secret math and magnetic labratory in L.A.? Seems weird to me, but I guess there's no real reason to think otherwise.
Any other thoughts, theories or questions?

The hotness of Desmond far outshines Sawyer. Not to say Sawyer isn't hot. Just in a different way. Hot from across the sea is way more enticing that hot you can find on every corner.
Her lab would have to be in Los Angeles, since Ben just shows up to check in while he's in L.A.
However, is it possible that sending Desmond to Los Angeles is part of a trap to get him back with the Oceanic 6 and back on the island? After all, we know that Farraday has been working for Widmore since his Oxford days.

Desmond is going back to the island for sure. Penny asking him to promise not to go there again sets that story arc up. They all need to hurry up and get back to that island already!
Little Charlie being Charles Widmore is blowing my mind. I also can't think how he would come to so much power, but there were those Widmore pregnancy tests, and those things don't come cheap.
What was Sun doing in L.A. last episode? Is she working with or against Widmore? Is she going to be working with or against Ben and Ms. Hawkings?
Dani
Woah woah woah there spinach-chin!
You're saying that somehow Penny & Desmond's little baby Charlie got brought back to the island, grew up as an Other (the young Charles we saw in "Jughead") who then leaves the island -- my theory is that he will later move the island with the wheel, pop up somewhere random and be unable to return --thus becoming the old Charles Whitmore, "father" of Penny bent on finding the Island??
But why would Desmond's kid have the last name Widmore? Wouldn't Desmond's kid have his last name, even if he and penny weren't married? I don't think Desmond's kid is his own grandad.
I think the widmore on the Island is Penny's dad and it explains his connection to the island.
Wouldn't that mean that Desmond is screwing his own granddaughter? I mean, if you're saying that Desmond screws his own granddaughter, that's one thing. But are you really saying that Desmond is screwing his own granddaughter?

Wow, if that is what going on, it's more fucked up than Kentucky.
Just what lost needs - some good, old-fashioned incest!
It's kind of like what if M.J. Fox got with his mom in Back to the Future. Just a little weird.
I don't know about this whole Charlie being Charles Widmore thing.. the writers are going to have to stretch it pretty far to make that happen. My number one question being - at what point in time did the baby have to go back to in order for a 20-something Charles Widmore to be there in 1953?
I guess that's the fun. We'll see.
Oh yeah I forgot - in response to who Theresa was, I can only assume she was romantically involved with Faraday, judging from the "coupley" picture (Desmond?)picked up briefly in this episode.
That episode ruled. Also, my being right doesn't bode well for the "Jin is alive" camp.

Just a hunch: Young gun-toting Ellie is Eloise Hawking, Faraday's mother. Is Widmore Faraday's father?
I do not think that baby Charlie is Charles Widmore, you sickos. I think that 1954 Widmore is there to explain the Island connection and that baby Charlie is named after a famed singer from Driveshaft, who died tragically.
But I do agree that the creepiest thing about this episode is that Al predicted something. I mean, he disovers the internet one day and the next he's making LOST predictions that come true? Dear God, what's gonna happen when he learns about DVR?
I think that Faraday's mother is Mrs. Holloway in Los Angeles. I like the IDEA that Widmore is just setting up Desmond to go to LA in order to go to the Island (and maybe then he can go hide Penny somewhere?) but I don't know.... does Widmore want them back on the Island like Ben does? Are Ben and Widmore working for the same purpose right now? Where do those two intersect on the island, in the past? Widmore seems to be gone by the time Ben gets to the Island.
Desmond's son Charlie was named after Charlie Pace, rock god guitarist of everyone's second-favorite band, Drive Shaft. Coincidence that he's named after his grandpa as well.
I'm guessing old Widmore had to turn the wheel and got banished like Ben, since it's been all but confirmed that he was in fact on the island at some point in the past anyway (before this, I mean). I know, I'm joylessly analytical.
Can I pimp my blog ( http://bigmattyj.blogspot.com ) where I also talk about Lost? Of course I can.
Anonymous, I agree with you. I think Ellie is Eloise Hawking, Faraday's mother and that Widmore is his pops.
I just thought Desmond's son Charlie was named after his dead bro, Charlie the heroin addict.

No no, you misunderstand. Desmond is not humping his own granddaughter. Adult Charles Widmore was never REALLY Penny's birth father. He merely took the role of her father when he returned to the real world in his 20's, perhaps even killing her biological father so his secret remains intact and he can fulfill his destiny of telling Desmond to "feck off," thus sending him off on his boat race and winding up on the island.
So no incest is taking place, you sick bastards.
Also, Richard Alpert is an android.
It will be revealed in this season that Richard Alpert has only four toes and one of the last remaining gods who once lived on the island. Olivia Newton John and Harry Hamlin will costar, reprising their roles from Xanadu and Clash of the Titans.
In all seriousness though, I watched the last episode of Season 2 last night and that's where the four-toed statue debuts. What's up with that?
Dani
We were all ranting about the four toe thing after the last episode when we were lamenting how much new shit gets introduced without any of the old stuff getting explained.
The Jughead bomb thing was dumb, and are they ever gonna mention that bomb again? What happened to it? Was it really standard U.S. Army practice to hang an H bomb by a string?
On the recap show that played before the season premiere, they made a specific point of showing the four-toed statue. I'm guessing that as this season delves further into the D.I. vs. Others/Hostiles/androids/Gods/pirates/whatever dynamic, the significance of the four-toed statue will be at least partially revealed.
Also, in the episode last season where Ben confronted Widmore in his bedroom, Charles said something to the effect of "The island was ALWAYS mine." (someone with more time on their hands can fact-check this) So why does he appear to be fairly low on the Others food chain in 1955?
-DB
Also, if Farraday has a British guy for a Dad, a British guy for a mom, and spent at least a good chunk of his life studying and living in England, why doesn't he have an accent?
-DB
I guess Faraday's accent isn't..exactly his number one priority.
swonness- I can't wun all awound like I want because of my swonness. Vewy sad.
I think Farraday was not raised by his parents, which is why he only thinks his mom "looks familiar" when he meets her in 1955 and why he doesn't have an accent. Check and mate.
-H Conway Esq
That's hardly checkmate. I still refuse to believe that the island is just a haven for four-toed, grandchild-fucking perverts. It's the cock-eyed optimist in me.
Richard Alpert is not an android.
We need to go back to the tapes and log all of the "they never explained" bull shit. We divide up the episodes amongst us and post it on the blog. Thoughts?
Charles
There's gonna be some ruling scene this season where Widmore takes his shoes off & only has 4 toes.
-miller
The four toes things is holy grail of lost-can't-and-won't-explain-shit. I have been complaining about those four toes since they never really explained the smoke monster.
Charles
ps. One word: metachlorines
Hey, if you don't like the rate they're explaining things, why do you even watch?
LOST: love it or leave it.
I jest. But personally, I'm not going to complain about what they do and don't explain until the series is over. In the meantime, I'm going to enjoy it. The producers have addressed people's concerns with the lack of explanations numerous times on the podcast and in various interviews. They're aware they're not going to make everyone happy, but at the same time, they have to pick and choose what to focus their time on. I can pretty much gaurantee the four-toed statue thing will be explained, probably this season. Just my two cents.
I don't want them to explain everything. Remember Star Wars? Remember how they ruined the force? A little mystery is great.
Charles Shredsmore
It wouldn't be incest, because Charles Widmore "adopted" Penny in much the same way Ben "adopted" Alex. I'll bet someone in the Dharma Initiative had a baby girl in the 70's. Charles Widmore, who will by this point be leader of the Hostiles, then kidnapped the baby to be adapted into the culture of the Hostiles, which will cause the Dharma Initiative to go on a full scale attack, destroying the Hostiles' infrastructure. Richard will be so pissed off at no longer being able to have his hair cut or wash his clothes, that he will strip Charles of his post as leader and banish him from the island with baby Penny, in much the same way that it seems Ben was no longer the leader even before he left.
When Desmond returns to the island, there will be a pink flash propelling them into the 30's. Whoever is leader of the Hostiles at that time will kidnap baby Charlie. Before Desmond has time to get him back, the island will move again, but baby Charlie will stay behind, in much the same way that it seems Claire has stayed behind.
This will make it to where it's not really incest, just socially frowned upon. I'm sure Desmond will throw up.
Isn't Claire dead? I thought people who appeared in visions were all dead. I still don't care for this whole grandparents screwing their own grandchildren storyline you're all pushing.
you guys are ridic
so I read in another blog that Theresa, the woman that Faraday hit and quit by sending her mind in a permanent time travel state, is the Theresa are old buddy Boone was referring to when he said "Theresa falls down the stairs, Theresa falls up the stairs." I think that's pretty cool. Here's to hoping for the return of Boone!

I've been reading a number of things about what's going on with this faraday situation. Young ellie being his mum seems to be pretty popular. As for Theresa, some people like to think she's faraday's sister (seeing as some see a resemblance between ellie and theresa). That would mean that the other chick that was there when desmond visited is also faraday's sister, triplets maybe? (ellie get's prego on the island, and because of widmore's island-effected super sperm count she gets trips?!) If she is faraday's sister, and widmore's his pops, that would make widmore HER pops, which might explain why he's been looking after her. Also it would mean faraday has no love interest (that we know of) off of the island which might explain how he could so easily fall for charlotte (cause let's face it, she's a total uggo). switching gears here, some say that theresa fell down those stairs becuase she "flashbacked" (i.e. desmond in the stairwell)
still trying to piece this together...
if widmore is desmonds kid, then desmond flashbacked, got ready to propose to his son's daughter with a right that he was about to buy off of his daughter in law (kinda) before she told him he had to push the button.
faraday named a rat after his mother
I have a theory about widmore! widmore know's that penny and desmond are his parents but later (as old man widmore assuming the role of penny's father) tries to drive them apart as a way to prevent his own birth in order to maybe prevent some terrible shit that young widmore may have done on the island (which led to his banishment?)
the statue is the foot of a simpsons character
the smoke monster is summoned by smoking jacobs weed (it's THAT potent) it killed mr eko because he brought heroine to the island, and jacob doesn't like competition
at what point did alpert leave the Island to serve as mayor of gotham?
If Desmond is Widmore's father, and Widmore had Faraday with Ellie Hawking, than Faraday is Desmond's grandson and.... JOHN LOCKE AND BEN ARE BROTHERS!
OH yeah, and DP made the point that Jacob has to be Jack or related to him, because everyone in the cabin seems to share some sort of blood with Jack!
crazy.
